Network Solutions: Especially Good for WordPress Sites
In business since 1979, Network Solutions has been around for decades longer than anyone else on this list, and it has earned respect through longevity. The company started registering domains in 1993 and expanded into online services including hosting in 2005.
But even with all of that experience, the only type of user they really cater to phenomenally is a WordPress blogger, thanks to their package specifically for that use. They have other packages, but with a higher price point and no distinguishing traits aside from the WordPress package, they won’t be the first choice for a non-Wordpress user.
Still, you can try out Network Solutions, and if you’re not impressed, you can cancel within 30 days and get your money back.
Uptime & Reliability
Unix Server Guarantee, No Windows Guarantee
In a move that looks pretty shady to Windows users (also known as the majority of the amateur website-owning population) Network Solutions gives a 99.9% uptime guarantee for Unix servers, but doesn’t make that same promise of its Windows servers. However, testing of the site shows excellent, basically perfect reliability even on Windows servers, but it does strike some fear into your heart when you’re left out of a guarantee.
Good Features for WordPress Users
Unless you’re a WordPress user, nothing really stands out in terms of special features. You don’t get all of the unlimited basics you get with a lot of providers; instead, only bandwidth is unlimited. Aside from that, everything has caps with the basic package. They do throw in a free domain with purchase of a year of hosting, but that’s pretty standard these days.
There are, however, some cool opportunities for ready solutions for WordPress blogs.
All Network Solutions packages include unlimited bandwidth.t
Packages have various amounts of disk space. The basic plan has 300 GB, but the higher tiered plan allows for unlimited disk space.
Network Solutions has a proprietary website builder with some free templates and a limited number of pages. For a small fee, you can add on pages.
The basic package allows for 1,000 email addresses, and more are allowed for higher-priced tiers. For most users, 1,000 is most likely enough..
None of Network Solutions’ packages include a shopping cart, but you can purchase an e-commerce account.
Network Solutions includes AWStats in all packages to allow users to keep an eye on their site traffic.
All packages include MySQL databases, but only a small number are allowed on Windows servers.
Network Solutions allows 25 FTP accounts for its basic package, and more for higher priced tiers.
Each user is limited to 100 domains, and the basic package allows for 3 directories, and even the biggest plan, the Unlimited, only allows for 10 directories, meaning that there is a limit far lower than 100 for the number of different websites that can be created on a single hosting plan.
No Chat, Limited Video Tutorials
We weren’t wowed by Network Solutions’ lack of live chat. If you’re happy to file a ticket or pick up the phone, this may not bother you. However, the video tutorial database is also pretty underwhelming, so if you like to dig around to teach yourself things, this isn’t the most amazing resource.
Network Solutions, perhaps because of its name recognition from its long history in the space, charges high prices. Even when there are discounts, they only run for 3 months. Also, in an inconvenient twist for small businesses, they’ll need to set up a separate, fairly expensive e-commerce account to set up a cyber store.
However, for WordPress bloggers, Network Solutions has a streamlined WordPress Blog Hosting package for a decent price.
Customized User Experience
Registration is easy, and you can defer payment if you opt to create a free website account first, test it out, then upgrade and pay later. They don’t do that horrible, sneaky thing of automatically checking some add-ons in the hopes that you won’t notice and accidentally pay for them. As with most hosts, you pay quite a bit less if you agree to a longer contract.
Instead of cPanel, they use an Account Manager, which acts as a similar hub for all products and offerings. Because this is an unfamiliar tool, it can seem tricky and complicated to navigate. However, like all new things, you will eventually get the hang of it.
Unlike some sites, Network Solutions will not overburden you with tons of promos.
Despite its pedigree in the space, Network Solutions isn’t really catering to anyone very well except WordPress bloggers. Small businesses will be frustrated by the e-commerce limitations, and even individual users will be disappointed by the limit on directories per account.
Had raised a ticket with them for a simple change which is to change the IP Address of a DNS server. As of now 4 tickets has been raised because after a few days the ticket get closed and when called back they respond that the old ticket cannot be reopen and so to raise a new ticket. As on date. it 8 Months and almost 14 hours on call with the technicians since the tickets has been raised but no resolutions has been made yet. And the worst part is that they never respond to your mails.
When I first registered in the 90s they were fine. Now they're the worst of the worst. They make you wait a total of 8 days, jumping through hoops, to transfer to another registrar. Other registrars it only takes mere minutes to transfer. They add domains onto your account without asking you, then charge you once the "free" year is up. For every tiny little change you make with your account, they try to trick you with hidden fine print into signing back up for the marketing emails. Most people miss it and end up back on the list, every time. Many more little unethical tricks they use to scam their customers out of money. Their customer service is so atrocious I feel that I'm about to have a heart attack or something I'm so frustrated and angry. The guy told me they don't close accounts, then he told me to hold while he "checked with his resources" and then he hung up on me.
I would rather have given a zero than a one. I have just tried to transfer a domain from networksolutions to another registrar. Because the domain hosted my primary email, I changed my email details to avoid problems with any transfer, and then proceeded to get an authorisation code for the transfer which they duly gave me. Having given me the authorisation code, they then told me that my account was locked for 60 days because I had changed my registrant details. They could have given me the option to over-ride the 60 day lock (according to ICANN), but didn't. Result, despite complaining to networksolutions and ICANN, I have to wait 60 days because networksolutions use 'sharp' practice and ICANN cannot intervene. The real feedback, is don't use these sharks. The best of it was, my domain was registered for the next two years, so they aren't even hanging on to the domain for financial gain. It's just them being petty and vindictive.
THIS SCAM COMPANY JUST CHARGED ME $75.00 DOLLARS TO RENEW 1 SINGLE DOMAIN! I PAY $12.00 YEARLY FOR DOMAINS AT OTHER PLACES. WHEN I SAW THEY WANTED $39.99 TO RENEW 1 SINGLE DOMAIN, I DECIDED NOT TO RENEW. ITS THEFT! TODAY HOWEVER, THEY CHARGED ME THE $39.99 PLUS ANOTHER $35.00 RE-ACTIVATION FEE? I NEVER AUTHORIZED THAT! NETWORK SOLUTIONS FRAUD SCAM COMPANY! I AM FILING COMPLAINTS, AS WELL AS DOING CHARGE BACKS WITH MY BANK AND I AM GOING TO REPORT IT AS FRAUD! I WILL NEVER USE THESE CON ARTIST CRIMINALS EVER AGAIN!
Took money from account when service was not active. When asking why I was being falsely charged they avoided questions. In order to delete my account I had to call a number provided, this number directed me to a dentists office. All other numbers on their site did not connect. Customer service basically ignored all my questions and could not properly explain why I am being charged for a service that is not even active. Avoid at all costs. Also their prices are not accurately described, they make it seem like it's just a small payment but will continue to charge you even after the domain expires and literally doesn't work.
NETWORK SOLUTIONS This is one of those companies that gets the worst reviews and chargers the highest prices. Their prices are over the top! For a 5 years domain name renewal they want $ 184.95. GoDaddy and most, if not all other authorized registrars, that gets good reviews charge around $50.00 for 5 years. What’s even worse is that your forced to use the Domain Expiration Protection which means you have to give them your credit card or PayPal information so they can automatically take your money for the next 5 years and you won’t know how much they are going to take out, which will be about twice the price. The only way you will know is when you get your credit card statement or email from PayPal. Once they have your domain name you are not getting it back. If you try to transfer your domain name to a decent affordable registrar you will go through hell, not worth it. I am giving up my domain name after 30 years with N.S. and going to GoDaddy. If you are considering Network Solutions I would highly suggest you look up reviews.
They do everything they can to block your success. They tell you can hold a site with your original name but when you transport your new name, they say the domain cain't be changed after paying for the transfer. Then they take the name used to hold the site and apply it over the new name you are trying to use. The keep charging multiple times to your account for one service, they charged me for one service 5 times. I paid to get the SSL certificate but now I have no certificate .
Avoid this company like the plague. I simply registered two domain names, without privacy protection which was fine. I then wanted to accomplish the simple task of changing the address on my WHOIS information as it was incorrect. Upon trying to do it on their website, I ran into a Java error when pressing the submit button on the form. Calling into support is a total nightmare. They don't pick up for at least 15-20 minutes everytime I've called in - sometimes even longer. Half the representatives you speak to are clueless about what's going on and have no idea what to do, so they open an email ticket. I've been on the same email ticket for over a month now with no results - my WHOIS information still can't be changed. I thought this was one of the simplest things to do to a domain, but apparently not with Network Solutions. I have transferred my domains to another registrar with no problems.
SCAM - Worst Customer Experience I have Every Received
I was trying to start building a website with Network Solutions, they made me purchase the domain name before even beginning the process of building. So, I put in my information. The process to build is extremely involved and less than user-friendly. I am looking to go to another provider with better customer service and a more user-friendly interface. I contacted support, after spending 45 on the phone I had my domain (un) registered with them and it was supposed to be released. 2 weeks later they still have it and they say that it won't expire until next year. I tried contacting customer support but I continue to get an automated system for all (5) numbers they have listed to call. Did I mention the automated system says customer support is only open Monday - Friday? Super confusing, worst experience ever and I will blast this across all review channels until I get a response back. This is Ridiculous!
