Antagonist has been in business since 2004 and has quickly grown to be one of the best known web hosting companies in the Netherlands. They only offer shared hosting solutions (plus some reseller packages), which is unfortunate. These packages, however, should be more than enough for the vast majority of website owners.
The company was founded by IT professionals who wanted to offer a better service to people operating out of, or targeting, people in the Netherlands. They seem to have done a good job so far, and the company continues to grow. At last update, they host over 100,000 different websites for thousands of different customers.
Unfortunately, this company doesn’t really promote any type of uptime guarantee or other information that will let you know how much down time you might expect. I was not able to find any complaints on review sites or social media, which is a good sign. Most of what I found, however, was in Dutch so that may limit what I could have discovered.
I will say that they make a commitment to using high end hardware, which is one of the most important things for shared hosting companies.
Antagonist offers three different web hosting packages to choose from. The basic package is 2.09 Euros per month, and the price drops even further when you pay annually. This entry level package only has 3GB of storage, but for most individual sites that is more than enough. They allow 60GB of traffic per month, which again is plenty for the average website.
When you move up to the middle plan, which they call ‘unlimited’ it is 3.99 Euros per month. As the name implies, you get unlimited traffic, storage, email addresses and SQL servers. This is still just for one domain though.
The highest level package they offer will be the premium package, which is 8.99 Euros per month. It too has no limits on all the main features, but the hardware that is supporting it is stronger. Also, you can host up to 5 websites on the one package.
The company does offer technical support, but they don’t mention how you can contact them on their website. It stands to reason that they will provide you with this information when you sign up, but it is nice to know before hand. Most of time when companies do this, they really only offer a ticketing system to report issues through.
When you convert the Euros to dollars, the pricing ends up being about what you would expect for the services you are getting. The one really nice thing about Antagonist is that you get a free domain name with every package. That is a nice little savings, and is certainly work taking note of if you’re starting a brand new website.
If you are in the Netherlands, or you are targeting an audience in this part of the world, this company is a fine option to consider. They have a good reputation for quality service, and have been around long enough to be nice and stable.
