Performance

I tested IONOS Germany’s infrastructure using a live VPS server provisioned in Berlin to get a clear picture of what the hardware actually delivers. Here are the exact specs I was working with:

The 95th percentile latency of 0.10ms is the number I would point to here. It means that even during the busiest moments of the test, when reads and writes were happening simultaneously at full speed, the storage stayed responsive.

Traditional SSD hosting struggles to hold that kind of latency consistency under a mixed random workload. For a WordPress site with active traffic, regular database writes, and media serving happening at the same time, these disk speeds mean storage is not going to become a bottleneck as your traffic grows.

Network Performance Testing

I tested network speed using speedtest-cli from the live Berlin server. The test connected to an Internetnord GmbH node also located in Berlin, with a ping of 12.794ms.

I tested IONOS ease of use across the three stages every new customer goes through: signing up, finding your way around the dashboard, and managing your server once it is live.

Getting all three things right determines whether you hit the ground running or spend your first hour searching for basic settings.

Registration and Creating an Account

Getting started with IONOS is a process I found direct and easy to follow from the first click. From the homepage, I navigated to Hosting in the top menu.

I then selected “VPS Hosting” from the dropdown to view the plans.

The plan page loaded cleanly with all six tiers listed and their specs clearly visible. I scrolled down and selected the VPS M plan on a three-year term.

This action led me to a configuration page where everything I needed to set up the server was presented on a single screen.

I selected my contract term and my server location. IONOS offers four options: the US, the UK, Spain, and Germany. I chose Germany.

I then picked my operating system and added backup preferences.

Having all configuration options on one page, rather than spread across multiple steps, made the process feel more efficient.

The server management interface displayed the most important details, status, IP, location, and specs, the moment I clicked into my server. I could access all controls in one place, so basic tasks like restarting or reinstalling the OS did not require switching between multiple menus.

Getting to the right team takes a few deliberate steps, so here is exactly how the process works.

From the IONOS dashboard, I clicked the Help & Contact icon in the top navigation bar and selected the Contact tab.

A topic dropdown appeared with options including:

My Live Chat Experience

Clicking Start a live chat opened a chat widget directly on the page. A bot greeted me first and asked how it could help. I typed my question immediately:

“I need to make sure my site is hosted on a server close to my target audience. How do I confirm which data center my server is provisioned in after signup, and can I request a specific location?”

IONOS support is well structured once you navigate the topic selector to reach the right team. The live chat bot handled the handoff cleanly, and Asia answered both questions accurately, including flagging a real limitation around post-signup location changes without prompting.
