As a website owner who’s tried various email hosting providers, I value a user-friendly and dependable service.
My initial experience with DreamHost’s email hosting has been promising—it’s affordable and packed with practical features.
DreamHost’s email hosting is for users seeking reliable email with simplicity and value. This product stands out with 25GB of storage per mailbox, ad-free webmail, and strong spam protection, all at an affordable price.
Backed by a solid 4.3 on HostAdvice’s DreamHost review, it’s clear that user satisfaction is high. With these features, DreamHost offers a compelling option for anyone prioritizing affordability and reliability.
Let’s see if it delivers on performance in this DreamHost email hosting review.
DreamHost
From the beginner-friendly controls and management tools, to an extensive 30-day money-back guarantee, what’s not to love with Dreamhost? Get top-tier hosting features, and consistently reliable performance.
However, DreamHost doesn’t offer refunds or credits on its Paid Email plan, so choosing your plan with commitment is important.
For the initial purchase, DreamHost accepts debit or credit cards or PayPal linked to a credit card. If you don’t have a credit card, you may need to ask a friend or family member for assistance with this first payment.
After the initial payment, DreamHost allows you to change your payment method to one of several options for added flexibility:
Credit/Debit Card – accepting Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, and Diners Club
Electronic Check (ACH) – direct payment from a bank account
PayPal – using any linked funding source
Check or Money Order – a non-electronic method, useful for businesses
Here are the plans in detail:
1. Email Monthly Plan
The Email Monthly plan costs $1.99 per mailbox per month, offering flexibility for those who prefer not to commit to an annual plan.
This plan provides 25GB of storage per mailbox. The ad-free webmail interface keeps things professional, while the drag-and-drop features and automatic delivery filters make it easy to organize your emails. Plus, DreamHost’s IMAP support syncs your inbox across all devices, including desktops, laptops, tablets, and smartphones so that you can access emails on the go.
Tip The monthly plan is ideal if you’re testing out DreamHost’s email hosting or need flexibility with no long-term commitment.
2. Email Yearly Plan
The Email Yearly plan offers the same great features as the monthly plan at a discounted rate of $1.67 per mailbox, saving you 16% over the monthly option.
This plan includes 25GB storage, ad-free webmail, and comprehensive spam, virus, and phishing protection.
The intuitive webmail platform with customizable filters and aliases frees inbox management. With industry-standard IMAP support, your email stays up-to-date across all devices, helping you stay productive wherever you are.
Tip If you know you’ll need email hosting for a year or longer, the yearly plan is cost-effective, offering the same features at a lower overall cost.

To assess the performance of DreamHost’s email hosting, I used two widely recognized tools, GTmetrix and PageSpeed Insights, to evaluate DreamHost’s main website.
Although these tools are typically more suited to web hosting than email-specific services, they provide a general overview of server response times, load speeds, and overall efficiency.
Here’s what I found:
Level Of Support for DreamHost Email Hosting
DreamHost offers several support options for email hosting users. Here’s a breakdown of each support channel and my impressions based on interactions with DreamHost’s team.
1. Live Chat Support
DreamHost’s live chat is available 24/7, ideal for immediate assistance. To start a chat, you simply click the chat button on the bottom right of their website.
Initially, you’ll interact with a bot that tries to address your question, which is convenient for simpler inquiries.
However, if the bot isn’t helpful, DreamHost provides the option to transfer to a human representative instantly. When I tested this, I was connected to a human support agent immediately, who addressed my question clearly and professionally.
Overall, this live chat option is reliable and quick, especially if you need an answer immediately.
2. Email/Ticket Support
For less urgent issues or complex problems, DreamHost also offers support via tickets, which you can submit through the control panel.
This system works well for existing customers, as they receive a relatively quick response.
New customers can access the ticketing system on the website, where they fill out a short form that includes fields like name, email, phone number, and the nature of their question.
After submitting my query to DreamHost’s ticketing system at 10:41 p.m., I received a response from their support team by 4:52 a.m., which is a fairly prompt reply for a non-urgent query submitted late at night.
The response was detailed enough to give a clear picture of DreamHost’s email hosting capabilities yet concise enough to keep the focus on my question. The representative seemed knowledgeable, offering relevant details about the email hosting service without veering off-topic.
Overall, I found DreamHost’s support well-informed and helpful, with enough technical insight and resources to help me make an informed decision about their email hosting.
3. Knowledge Base
If you prefer a self-help approach, DreamHost’s knowledge base is comprehensive and easy to navigate.
It includes a large collection of articles covering setup, configuration, troubleshooting, and common issues related to email hosting. The articles are organized into topics with step-by-step instructions, FAQs, and guides, making it a great resource for resolving issues independently.
The knowledge base is useful for initial setup or answering basic questions, as it’s available 24/7 and offers clear, accessible solutions.
In summary, DreamHost’s email hosting support channels offer various options that cater to various needs, from quick, live assistance to more detailed email support. The overall support experience is professional and efficient, with live chat being the best choice for immediate assistance and the knowledge base being ideal for DIY troubleshooting.
Ease of Use
To test the ease of use with DreamHost’s email hosting, I decided to go through the registration process and explore the control panel.
Here’s how it went and what you can expect if you sign up.
1. Registration
Signing up for DreamHost Email Hosting was straightforward and user-friendly. To get started, you simply go to the DreamHost homepage, click on “Email” from the top menu, and select “Email Hosting.”
On the next page, choose the plan you want. I opted for the monthly plan and clicked “sign up now” to proceed.
On the next page, DreamHost provides clear steps to get your email hosting set up:
Choose a domain: Here, you can select from three options:
Choose a domain later – ideal if you’re still deciding on a domain.
Register a new domain – lets you search for a new domain name to buy.
I already have a domain – use an existing domain, even if it’s registered elsewhere.
If any questions arise, a live chat button is floating at the bottom left, making it easy to get help without leaving the page.
Secure checkout: Once you’ve selected your domain, choose your preferred payment method: debit/credit card or PayPal.
Account setup: On this page, you’ll fill in some basic account details:
Existing email address – useful for receiving confirmation and communications.
Sign up with Google – a quick option if you prefer.
First and last name – standard contact information.
Phone number – useful for contact and verification.
Account use – choose between personal or business use, with the option to provide a VAT/Tax ID if applicable.
After filling in the necessary fields, simply click “submit order” to complete the registration.
Overall, I found the process to be straightforward and well-guided, with each step clearly labeled and supported by hints or live chat assistance if needed.
The layout is intuitive, and the “submit order” step ties everything up smoothly, making the registration process fast and accessible for users at any experience level.
2. DreamHost Control Panel
DreamHost’s control panel is custom-built, so you won’t find cPanel here.
While that might be a change for some users, I found this panel to be highly intuitive and easy to use. It offers the same essential functionalities as cPanel, allowing you to manage websites, databases, email, and billing seamlessly.
One advantage of DreamHost’s setup is that the control panel runs on separate servers, which means it won’t take up resources on your web server—helping keep your website performance smooth and fast.
Looking at the control panel in detail, here’s what impressed me:
Organized Dashboard: The homepage offers a welcome message and key resources, such as “Log in to WordPress,” “Email and Productivity Apps,” and “File Manager,” right in view. This quick-access layout is convenient and saves time by placing essential tools on the main screen.
Clear Navigation Menu: The sidebar on the left lists primary sections, including Domains, WordPress, Mail, FTP & SSH Users, Billing & Account, and Support. This clean structure made it easy for me to locate tools and settings without feeling overwhelmed.
Effortless WordPress Access: DreamHost provides a one-click login right on the dashboard for those using WordPress. This eliminates extra steps, letting you dive straight into my website editing without navigating multiple menus.
Email and Productivity Apps: DreamHost offers a dedicated section for managing email, allowing you to easily set up email accounts linked to your domain.
File Management with Browser-Based FTP: DreamHost includes a file manager accessible from the dashboard, so you can start managing your site’s files without needing a separate FTP client.
Database Access: DreamHost provides a straightforward link to manage MySQL databases with phpMyAdmin, which is immediately accessible from the main screen. This makes database management convenient, especially for those handling data-driven websites.
Managing email hosting is straightforward. To access the email hosting settings, go to the Mail section, which is visible in the left-hand menu. This is where you can create and manage email accounts associated with your domain, set up productivity apps, and access other email-specific features.
What impressed me is how prominently the email management tools are displayed. For instance, the Email and Productivity Apps section on the main dashboard highlights options for setting up domain-based emails and cloud productivity tools for business use.
The intuitive design and easy access to core features make this control panel suitable for beginners and experienced users.
Conclusion: Do We Recommend DreamHost Email Hosting?
In my experience, DreamHost’s email hosting offers excellent value for users looking for reliable, no-frills email solutions. The standout features for me are the generous 25GB mailbox storage, ad-free webmail, and strong spam protection, all at a highly affordable price.
DreamHost provides a smooth, intuitive setup process, which makes it a convenient choice even if you’re new to email hosting.
What sets DreamHost apart, though, is its focus on essentials without hidden costs—no long-term commitments required, and clear, straightforward pricing. I think DreamHost is a strong recommendation for anyone looking for an affordable, dependable email service that’s also easy to use. It’s a service I’d consider for both personal and business use, as it balances cost-effectiveness with reliable performance.
Very poor experience – account disabled without notice
I purchased several domain names from DreamHost. After a few days, my account was suddenly disabled without any prior notice or explanation. This is extremely unprofessional and unacceptable for a hosting and domain provider.
Please do not purchase from DreamHost, as they can disable your account without notice. I am currently unable to access domains for which I have already made full payment. These domains are my lawful property, and I have a legal right to access and manage them.
Additionally, their website has serious usability problems. When trying to purchase domains from a mobile device, the payment option did not work properly, which caused unnecessary frustration and wasted time.
Overall, this experience has been disappointing. I would not recommend DreamHost to anyone looking for reliable domain or hosting services.
User interface was worst. Had an upload issue where php memory needs change. Ticket was replied 3 days after. And they did something saying ssl not activated and every files of website gone. ENTURE INSTALLATION AND MY WORK VANISHED. Terrible and WORST experience. Even GODADDY will feel better than them . That is how much terrible their experience is.

This company enables stolen archive material to hosted via their platform to wordpress. They make very hard to deal direct with them, then use legal disclaimers to not take any responsibility of what there members do. Then they back that up with take legal action then they will deal with it. I would love to do but don't have the funds. They have no moral sense or duty because they don't have to. Am dismissed because I don't have the finances to beat down their protective wall. Even though I have proof they still don't want to know. My complaint has fallen on, we are not interested.
Unreliable Mail server super slow My website is down
Obvious problem with mail servers emails take hours or even days to arrive into mail box and It is not getting any better. Today, November 23, 2021 my website crashed in the morning and It was down for 12 hours.
DreamHost is a website hosting that has recently misled users and by following its invented (often dishonest) rules, it removes important files from the customer's account - from the server - that are part of the domain infrastructure.
DreamHost has been added to the world DBA database with the status "red", ie untrusted and unreliable, which means that this service provider is not recommended and you should rather avoid using this hosting. O-CAI also warns users on its website: o-cai.com
In the details of the entry, we can read: "The user amy.lokmart@gmail.com via the O-CAI Organization purchased the homesfilms.com domain from the dreamHost operator with the server for $ 189 for 3 years. Running a film production project at Homesfilms.com. for a year, various materials were introduced, including 637 .mp4 files, which were to support work and learning on the film production process. After exceeding 1TB of disk space, a special dreamHost algorithm removed 637 files. The user amy.lokmart@gmail.com saw no further sense The development team removed the remaining materials from the account and transferred the domain to another host. DreamHost officially claims that its servers are unlimited, but if you exceed 1TB, it transfers your files to the DreamObjects service and orders you to pay extra, telling everyone that they are backups. DreamHost does not respect someone else's work [...] "
The amy.lokmart@gmail.com user statement says: "You cannot upload .mp4, .mp3, .jpg, .gif, .zip, .rar and other files to the DreamHost server, because if you take up too much space, they will delete everything. This is the worst hosting I've ever used. I really don't recommend using dreamHost. You should really think seriously before anyone wants to use dreamHost. There is no absolute contact from dreamHost. -mail responds the robot - then there are superficial responses as if someone prepared them earlier for a commercial recurring mailing. DreamHost is not honest, because it does not give back all the money - I paid for 3 years, and I used 1 year hosting and I did not receive any refund, for example part of the money, they only return the extra money paid to the account at a later date. If someone intends to use dreamHost, let them know that they will lose TIME AND MONEY, and time is money lust ".
O-CAI tried to contact dreamHost at support@dreamhost.com, but unfortunately all incoming messages are deleted because you are not a customer.
Been with them 3-4 days because of their "100% uptime". Their entire network has been constantly down for almost TWO DAYS. My uptime monitor reports total completely down over the last 2 days of almost FOUR hours. Including for an HOUR last night. Dreamhost is completely unsympathetic that my business is losing money, and has been sending out "gee we're sorry. It will probably be fixed soon" emails. I've been in many hosters, and Dreamhost is the worst by far. I now have to find another hoster, and move my site AGAIN because their service has been pathetic and unreliable. Run as fast and as far as you can from Dreamhost. A completely unreliable and dysfunctional provider.
ADDED: It's now the THIRD day my website is going down. A hoster with unresolved DNS problems taking down my site. This is the most unreliable service I've ever been 9n, and all I've gotten from Dreamhost is "our techs are working on it. Meanwhile, I lose money and clients, and they dont seem to care at all.
Great service for novice webmaster, just what our small NFP veterans' association needed.
WordPress migrated our small, low-traffic WordPress site from another host without problems. Support has been prompt and patient with an old retired Marine dragooned into serving as Webmaster. Price is right, too, since our only revenue source is donations from members.
